Politics is like the game of chess. To succeed:

1. Read & Study the rules.

2. Understand the political landscape.

3. Identify your allies and opponents.

4. Create a strategy.

Finally, PLAY TO WIN!

Take a minute to write to the politicians making decisions to cut vital programs and dismantle essential government departments.

Tell the Speakers of the House and the Speakers of the Senate:

OPPOSE HUD STAFF CUTS!

The GAME OF POLITICS is much like the GAME OF CHESS.

The Chess Board and the Rules are what we call the landscape, which is compared to:

1.        America

2.        Ohio (any of the 52 states in America)

The better you know and understand the rules of the game.

The better you get at playing the game.

Each individual state has its own rules of how to govern their people.

The Rule for America and its 52 states is that they all have a democratic system NOT dictatorship or autocracy.

The Players

(Some, all, or none of these can be allies or opponents.)

Political control of Ohio between the two major parties.

Republicans outnumber Democrats in Ohio government.

The governor, Mike DeWine, is a Republican,

statewide elected officials:

Lieutenant Governor of Ohio Jim Tressel,

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost,

Ohio State Auditor Keith Faber,

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and

Ohio State Treasurer Robert Sprague.

State Agencies and Departments

Boards and Commissions

The Playing Field

(The Structure of Ohio)

Ohio's government is composed of the:

Executive branch - led by the governor

Legislative branch - consisting of the bicameral Ohio General Assembly.

Judicial branch - led by the state Supreme Court.

DEMCRATIC GOVERNMENT = A federal presidential republic where citizens elect officials who represent their ideas.

In an AUTOCRACY, there is a singular person who holds all power (without checks and balances) for the entire country.

In a DICTATORSHIP, absolute power is given to one thing, but it could be a person, group of military leaders or another type of political body.
